ENG vs IND: 'Shastri-Kohli need to focus the most on this one thing in Team India'
VVS Laxman on India-England Series: Former India batsman VVS Laxman feels that Ravi Shastri and Virat Kohli need to ensure that Indian batsmen deliver match-winning performances in England.
New Delhi: Former Indian cricketer VVS Laxman has shared important things for Team India to keep in mind before the Test series against England. The first Test between India and England will start in Nottingham from 4th August. Former middle order batsman Laxman has asked Ravi Shastri and Virat Kohli to focus on one particular area the most.
Laxman while talking in the show Game Plan of Star Sports said, 'I believe that the entire mindset of the Indian team has changed. With the win in Australia in 2020, the way they beat Australia in Brisbane and won the series even though many of their key players were not available, it shows that the team has a lot of depth and strength. I think the fast bowlers' unit has become very strong and the way they have performed well around the world has given them a lot of confidence.
The 46-year-old cricketer-turned-commentator said Ravi Shastri and Virat Kohli should focus on this area the most during the five-match Test series against England. Laxman said, 'The Indian team depends on one or two batsmen in overseas conditions, especially in England. If you want to beat England in a five-Test series, you have to be united in batting. You can't expect one or two batsmen to score runs and you win the series. Ravi Shastri and Virat Kohli need to focus on this the most.
Team management needs to support players: Laxman
VVS Laxman then talks about India's tour of England, which is very important for some players. Laxman said, 'For me, Pujara, Rahane and all the batsmen in this team are experienced and quality. Everyone has a different formula and everyone's approach to scoring runs is different. This is the thinking of Virat Kohli, which he has consistently maintained throughout his career. Then Pujara showed his thinking and Rahane showed it too. Rohit Sharma showed his thinking after becoming an opener. So I think it is important for the team management to help all the players to develop confidence in their thinking.
When asked who would be the key player from both the teams. On this, Laxman, while naming his favorite players, said, 'From the Indian team's point of view, I would like to choose Rishabh Pant and Jasprit Bumrah among the bowlers. For England, I will keep James Anderson and captain Joe Root. Let us tell you that the Indian team has not won a Test series in England for 14 years. Team India last defeated England 1-0 at home in 2007 under the captaincy of Rahul Dravid.
