WhatsApp has once again banned the accounts of 20 lakh Indian users

Facebook-owned messenger app WhatsApp continues its crackdown on wrongdoers in India, with WhatsApp banning 2 million Indian accounts. The company filed the latest compliance report with Indian authorities, in which WhatsApp also revealed that it had received 500 complaints in October. In its latest report, WhatsApp said that in October, WhatsApp banned 2,069,000 Indian accounts. WhatsApp account in India is identified through 91 phone numbers.
A WhatsApp spokesperson said that WhatsApp is an industry leader in preventing abuse among end-to-end encrypted messaging services. Over the years, we have consistently invested in Artificial Intelligence and other cutting-edge technology, data scientists, and experts and processes. We are taking these steps to keep our users safe on our platform. A WhatsApp spokesperson said that as per the IT Rules 2021, the platform has published its fifth monthly report for the month of October.
WhatsApp had earlier said that more than 95 percent of the bans have been imposed due to unauthorized use of automatic or bulk messaging (spam). The global average for WhatsApp to prevent abuse on its platform is about 8 million per month. WhatsApp banned more than 2.2 million Indian accounts, while 560 complaint reports were received by the messaging platform in the month of September.
