Vaishno Devi Stampede: Did not get help for 3 hours

Eyewitnesses and child survivors of the accident have blown the blame on the Shrine Board for the horrific accident caused by a stampede at Vaishno Devi temple. The people present at the spot said that there was a huge crowd on New Year's Eve and due to their mismanagement, the accident took place. Twelve people have died, while 14 people have been injured in the stampede that took place at 2:45 am on Saturday. A devotee who came from Ghaziabad to seek the blessings of the mother said, 'There is no other reason for this tragic incident but mismanagement. They knew that today a large number of people can gather, but people were continuously given entry, and then this accident happened. However, the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board has denied the allegations.

The Shrine Board said that in view of the crowd present, all necessary measures were taken. Every arrangement was made. Jammu and Kashmir during the event DGP Dilbagh Singh said police were fully vigilant and he was rushed to the spot immediately. He said the police had reacted immediately, but by then the damage had been done. Describing the incident as unfortunate, Dilbagh Singh said that some youths had an argument and then a scuffle broke out. During this people started retreating and then a situation of stampede arose. This is the reason why this accident happened.

A devotee who came to visit Mata Vaishno Devi, on the condition of anonymity, said that the incident could have been avoided if the management had been right on the part of the authorities. The man said, 'Similar situation had arisen sometime before the accident too, but fortunately someone was hurt and the situation was brought under control. We 10 people have come together, all people are neighbors. There was a stampede due to the huge crowd coming together. Some wanted to go in, some wanted to go out. Somebody was in a hurry.' The youth said that when people ran away, many people were lying on the floor and due to this, more damage was done.
