Under pressure from China, the Economic Coordination Committee of Pakistan has approved a compensation of Rs 86 crore to the families of Chinese workers killed and injured in the Dasu Dam terror attack. The Dasu Hydro Power Project is funded by the World Bank and does not come under the purview of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

10 civilians were killed and 28 people were injured in the Dasu attack. There was a terrorist attack on a bus carrying Chinese workers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on 14 July 2021. The Chinese workers and their accompanying Pakistani workers were on their way to the project camp when the attack took place. Four Pakistani civilians were also killed in this attack.

Beijing slammed Islamabad and demanded action over the increasing attacks on Chinese citizens in Pakistan. In view of the lax attitude on the part of Pakistan in action, China stopped working on many projects. Due to this, relations between Pakistan and China also started getting affected. China has asked Pakistan to secure Chinese citizens and projects in Pakistan.
