Intel Foundry Services will release chips for Qualcomm using 20A technology
Intel announced its intentions to enter the market for contract manufacturing of semiconductors back in the spring.
Qualcomm is interested in Intel's 20A technology standard . The chipmaker plans to master this process technology in 2024, and among its main features are the architecture of RibbonFET transistors and PowerVia technology, which implies supplying power from the back side of the crystal through inter-silicon connections. Which Qualcomm products will be based on Intel 20A technology, unfortunately, has not yet been specified.
“Qualcomm is thrilled with the revolutionary RibbonFET and PowerVia technologies coming to the Intel 20A. We're also delighted to have another cutting-edge manufacturing partner, IFS, to help US factoryless developers roll out their products locally, ”said Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon.
In addition, Amazon Web Services (AWS) approached Intel Foundry Services for services. In this case, we are not talking about the production of microcircuits, but about their packaging using proprietary Intel technologies. Another contract chip maker will be releasing the processors for AWS.
