EC guidelines will be strict in view of Corona
The Election Commission of India is preparing to tighten the Covid-19 guidelines.
Assembly elections are going to be held in five states of the country including Uttar Pradesh and Punjab this year. In view of the infection of Corona, the Election Commission of India is preparing to tighten the Covid-19 guidelines. Under the new guidelines, there will be strong accountability of the District Election Officer (DEO). At the same time, there is also a plan to ban campaigns in case of violation by political parties. Let us tell you that in the last round of the Bihar assembly elections, many flaws were seen.
The DEO is vested with the power to coordinate and supervise all election-related work for all parliamentary and assembly constituencies under his jurisdiction. The Election Commission is strongly contemplating disciplinary action against the DEO in case of any violation of the guidelines of the Election Commission. Restricting the promotion and promotional days of the star campaigner is also being considered.
In a virtual meeting, the Election Commission has discussed with the representatives of political parties, Chief Secretary, DGP, State Police Nodal Officer, and CEO. In this, the commission emphasized the need for 100% vaccination of all polling staff, social distancing at polling stations, proper sanitation, and safe elections.
CEC Sushil Chandra expressed his concern to the Chief Secretary, Manipur regarding the low vaccination rate in the state and asked to expedite the same.
The Election Commission will soon announce the election schedule for UP, Goa, Uttarakhand, Punjab, and Manipur. This is expected to underline the importance of the Disaster Management Act, 2005 with regard to measures to contain COVID-19 and its implementation by the authorized state agencies, the officials said.
